Magnet Theater Podcast

Everybody’s doing it these days. Podcasting, that is! For over 20 years, Magnet Theater has been one of New York’s premiere comedy and improv ground zeroes wherein many budding performers got their start. Magnet’s podcast incorporates its live, on-the-fly stage shows and classes with jokes, interviews, improv, music and even some wisdom. Recently featured was “Bridesmaids” and “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” star Ellie Kemper who brings laughs and good advice on how to create comedic characters. You can also listen to Magnet’s founders on the origins and evolution of the theater.

10 Year Anniversary

Behind every vaunted New York City institution, there’s a story. Everyone has a memory of a favorite place in their city that they share lovingly with friends and family. The Magnet Theater has had its share of ups and downs in its journey in becoming one of the best places to take improv classes, as voted by CBS News. The theater’s founders, Armando Diaz, Shannon Manning, Ed Herbtsman and Alex Marino, tell their stories of where they were on the edge of Magnet’s genesis, having landlords disappear when trying to open the theater itself, the minimal-yet-claustrophobic feel of the theater’s early days and plans for the future.

Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, it’s the oral history of the Magnet Theater. Click here to read all about it!
