Voter Registration for NY Elections

There's still time to vote. Review NYC Voter Registration information and Register!

Today is National Voter Registration day. In 2008, 6 million Americans didn’t vote because they missed a registration deadline or didn’t know how to register. Don't be left out.

Do you you meet these qualifications to vote?

  • United States citizen;
  • 18 years old by the date of the general election (November 8, 2016);
  • residing at present address at least 30 days before an election;
  • not in prison or on parole for a felony conviction and;
  • not adjudged mentally incompetent by a court;
  • not claiming the right to vote elsewhere.

In New York you register through the Board of Elections, at least 25 days before the next election. You can register in person or by mail, using a New York Voter Registration Form

  • In person registration closes Oct. 14. Register at your county Board of Elections (BoE) or an agency-based voter registration center.
  • Mail-in voter registration forms must be postmarked by midnight, October 14 and received by a board of elections no later than October 19 to be valid.
  • If you need an absentee ballot, submit the request by mail postmarked by Nov. 1 or in person by Nov. 7.

New Yorkers can also register to vote online through the NY DMV by filling out the Electronic Voter Registration Application.

Not sure if you're registered? Check your status via the BoE’s NY Voter Registration Search page.
